The main reason to use a standalone app of something you can get in the web browser is that it should be more performant and feel more native than in the browser. So, whatever benefits the app held aren’t worth the trouble, I’ll just return to using it via a browser. The website, by comparison, doesn’t crash, or freeze or lose my data. It’s fine in short bursts, but as I rely on it throughout the day, it simply isn’t stable enough. The app is completely unreliable and worthless for extended use. The app freezes constantly, outright crashes, or loses cards after I try to enter them. Update #2: After two years I’m giving up and uninstalling this piece of garbage. ![]() Tell me again why this is better than using the website, which, as far as I can tell, works flawlessly? Now it’s freezing *while* I’m typing entries into a card I then have to force quit, losing whatever progress I had. Constant freezes requiring me to quit and restart the app. Update1: It’s 2019, and the app is still worthless. The latest problem now is that after inactivity the app no longer reponds at all and has to be force quit. Frequently it will take multiple clicks to register, then, when it does, it will reset to the home page and any card I was working on is gone. I keep the Trello window open on another desktop while I work, and after a few moments of inactivity, the window seems to constantly freeze. However, the app vesion is completely unreliable. Some hydroponic growers use renewable energy, some see hydroponics as more sustainable than Organic. (Think about removing and trashing plastic mulch!) Social justice and fair trade are not addressed. Not all Organic practices are sustainable. The Organic label does not cover all the important aspects of ethical and sustainable farming. That is, Organic certifiers can certify hydroponic operations of growers using only approved inputs for fertility and pest management, and if they are protecting natural resources and fostering biodiversity. This means the situation continues for now as it has been. They did not get a decisive vote to prohibit hydroponics from Organic Certification. The NOSB rules require a “decisive vote” (10:5) for a decision. Audrey Alwell wrote in the Organic Broadcaster for Jan/Feb 2018, reminding us that the 8:7 vote at the NOSB is not a clear stamp of approval for “organic” hydroponics and aquaponics. Since then I’ve read more information, and realized that the view I presented last time is not the whole picture. Last weekI wrote about the November 2017 vote at the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) on hydroponics. Lastly I have more on hydroponics and Organic Certification. Overwintered spinach with spring-sown Sugar Ann snap peas. peanuts grow slowly while lettuce grows quickly. Okra grows tall, while cabbages stay close to the ground. It’s all about timing and about choosing compatible crops. In the summer we have sown peanuts down the center of a bed of lettuce, and transplanted okra into a bed of early cabbage. When the spinach bolts, the next crop is in place with no further work. The peas grow upwards, not competing with the spinach. The same piece of rowcover warms both (until we whisk away the rowcover to a later crop. Today thyme is still used to make a medicinal tea, but it is also much enjoyed around the world as a seasoning herb, adding flavor and aroma to sauces, soups, stews, meats and poultry. This herb would also be found in use in traditional eastern medicine, particularly as a healing tonic and relaxant. ![]() In times of plague, large amounts of thyme would be burned to help clear the air and keep the disease beyond the doors of the town. Thyme kept its presence in religious ceremonies, particularly in funerals as it was believed to help with the transition to an afterlife. Thyme was still linked to courage and so it was common practice for ladies to offer a stem to knights. This series is presented on home video through Fox Lorber, who has issued the complete series on two discs, which are housed in a double Alpha case, like what The Abyss and A Bug’s Life Special Editions were issued in. While that’s a very long running time, you can choose to watch the episodes by themselves, so no time issues should be stressed. In total, the series clocks in at four hundred minutes, or about six hours and forty minutes. The series consists of four complete episodes, with the segueways well placed on all breaks. If you are a fan of the novel, you should give this release a look, if for no other reason than to see a remarkable cinematic vision of the written word. The cast includes Gerard Depardieu (Green Card), who is one of France’s finest performers. The costumes and set design are excellent, and really add to the realism, which is vital for a period piece like this. The scope and grandiose is present, and I feel the series pays adequate homage to the written version. The acting is very good, but it’s sometimes difficult to assess delivery when the speakers are foreign. While the series is long and slow moving, this time is used to explore characters and events in a very literary fashion, in the finest of detail. This a cinematic telling of the classic writing, which captures the feeling of the work well. After all the years, can Edmond reclaim the heart and love of Mercedes, his former flame? With an almost endless supply of riches and favor with highly ranked people, Edmond has everything in order to avenge himself, but even that cannot truly ease what burdens him. Edmond goes under the guise of The Count of Monte Cristo, and begins to use his newfound riches to gain acceptance in the social ranks. Fresh in his mind is the task he wishes to complete, which is to gain revenge on those which caused him to lose years of his life and his former lover. With his friend gone and wealth on his horizon, Edmond stages a brave and dangerous escape, and reclaims his freedom.
